How to Make A Dougnut Hair Tie For Sweet Valentines(For Ur BFF/Urself/gf)

Hi there! I know that V day is coming right up soon and we are all pretty excited for it. Even for people without a Bae like me. I am officially celebrating V day with my gfs and I wanted to make them something cute as a gift to thank them for their friendship and thanks to a magazine I got the idea to make this doughnut hair tie. Well, I hope you enjoy this tutorial. Oh and happy V day!

  • First of all you are going to need any type of fabric. I just raided an old pair of trousers and decided to use them in this #RDIY since usually V day themes are romantic pink.
Then, just draw a rectangle of 45 cm (length) x 11 cm (width) on the other side of the fabric.(The inside) Be sure to measure some extra few cms if you are afraid of messing up.

This is what you will get after cutting the fabric out and I have to confess that the length of my fabric is actually 37.5 cm and 12 cm wide because I didn't have enough fabric and I was just experimenting with the fabric and yeah you can make it anyway you like.

Fold the two ends together.

Then, pin them together because we are going to have some fun sewing or hot gluing if you prefer that.

Can you see the pin?

After that sew the edges of the fabric together with a sewing machine or just hand sew it. If you don't know how to sew. Read till the end because there is a bonus post on how to hand sew there.

Now you can turn the "sock" around

Then, take your elastic chords or old hair ties and unknot them or cut them so that there are like the second pic below.

Next, put the elastic chord into the hole in the fabric and pull it out from the other side of the "tunnel".

After that, tie a double knot at the two holes and you are 90% done.

Since I wanted to make this doughnut hair tie more special and cutesy, I decide to add a few beads from an bead bracelet onto the hair tie. I chose the colours pink and white cuz it matches the theme. You can just pick any colour you like.

Then, you take your needle, tie a knot at the end of the thread and poke it into the fabric, passing through the bead's hole and then inside the fabric again. After that, poke the needle outside again and just tie a tiny knot at the end to secure the bead and cut out any excess.(Follow the black strokes. They symbolise your thread. The big black lump is your knot.)

Easy right? I love how all the beads look like sweets and giving the Boring hair tie a flirty and fun feeling.

After that, you may sew the edges of your doughnut hair tie with a thread that has almost the same colour as your fabric. Cut the excess thread and then you are done! Congrats for being a thoughtful person to give your gf or bff a present. I<3U!

Bonus: How to Sew (This is quite easy.)

First, you are going to need a needle and some thread.
Then, pass the thread through the hole of the needle.

*Tip: If you are a hard time doing that, just cut the tip of the thread with a pair of sharp scissors obliquely, then repeat step 2. If this trick doesn't work for you, just use the traditional method aka licking the thread.

Cut the thread off once you get your desired length of thread.

Next, just fold the thread together so that it is double stranded.

Tie a knot at the end of the thread and cut off any excess. Then, you may start sewing.

This is a quick sneak peek on my post next week. All the pictures above are taken from next week's #RDIY.

I uploaded this video on my Youtube Channel because I know that you get better quality there and I just happen to have a Youtube Channel. You can check it out here:

I prefer watching the Youtube video as it is in better quality and I can actually hear my voice clearly.

Hope you enjoy this post. This is the longest post ever in my blog and I used 2 days to finish blogging this. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it. Bye!
