How To Paint Words onto A Sweater Plus Plain Sweater Transformation

Hey guys! I have been MIA for a long time because it took a few days to complete this sweater as I was busy with a competition. But anyway, I should just zip up my mouth and teach you guys how to make this sweater.

  • The first thing that you need to do is create a stencil to paint on.
  • First things first, google for some motivational quotes or if you already have one in your mind that you love, you can use it.

  • I recycled some thick paper from a roll of cotton, but I think cardboard should create a better surface to paint on as cardboard won't stick out like this paper.
  • *do not use A4 paper!! I tried this and the paint smeared out of control.

  • Before draw out the quote measure how big you want your quote to be and mark the edges of the stencil.

  • After that, just draw out the quote you like on the cardboard with a mechanical pencil. I wrote Why fit in? Stand out and I love this quote. Actually the real version is Why fit in when you were born to stand out? We r all special.

  • Then, using a knife cut the stencil carefully. Remember to keep all the O's inside of any letter.

  • Part two is all about painting.
  • Take out your paintbrush and some fabric paint or dye of your choice. I chose black and yellow fabric paint.(Actually those are the only two colours I own.)

  • If you accidentally cut the stencil, just tape it back like this.

  • Tape the edges of the stencil to the sweater with masking tape.

  • Tape on the Os.

  • This is how the stencil looks like.

  • Remember to pile some newspaper in between the two sides so that the paint won't go through the fabric.

  • Start painting! Have fun! Be careful so that the sweater turns out perfect.

  • Let the paint dry overnight.

  • You can also draw on some graphics if you want.

  • I sew some buttons at the bottom of the neckline.
  • This is how I sew the buttons.

Pass the needle through another button hole.

Knot behind the fabric and cut off excess thread.

  • I outlined the words with A Purple Sharpie.

The end look of the sweater. My mom thinks it is ugly:(. Never mind I believe that you guys can do better than me.

Oh and btw I made this shirt ages before I decided to make the sweater. I personally think that this looks a whole look cuter and my friends think so too;)

Have fun creating and saving money! Good Luck to you!

Thanks for reading and crafting!
xoxo
